Breakfast Aeolian style.

I shot a feature of this house 15 years ago and this simple composition I set up on the outdoor breakfast table is still one of my favourite images of all time.

It just sums up the islands of the Italian Mediterranean.

I captured this lovely slice of Atlantic coastline

I captured this lovely slice of Atlantic coastline near Cape Cornwall, just up from Land’s End. Shooting long exposures which extends time transforms coastal and sea photography into something altogether more mysterious, more evocative, more dreamlike.

Marina Corta, Lipari, 1986

This was first year I began photographing the Aeolian Islands. With a camera in my hands, I was suddenly captivated by the intense light, the deep contrasts, the vibrancy of the colours, and the salty earthiness of the island subjects, be they landscapes, architecture or the people.

Almost 40 years later, my passion for photographing this unique collection of volcanic islands has not dimmed one bit, or should that be lumen?

This is a scanned Kodachrome image of the old port of Marina Corta on Lipari. It’s now been much enlarged, and the buildings restored and rebuilt. But as it was back then, more rustic and filled with fishing boats, was really quite evocative and beautiful.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 December weather in the Aeolian Islands, my favourite time of year for photography! This is Lipari, looking south towards the adjacent island of Vulcano, with the coastline of Sicily in the distance.

This is one of my ultra high resolution panoramic views, created by blending together multiple individual shots to create an finely detailed sweeping wide view, exquisitely rich in tone and colour.

Instagram makes it difficult to show panoramas, so I’ve shown it in segments. Scroll though to see it all, including full resolution details and it in an interior. Prints can be ordered from my website.

🇮🇹 Vista panoramica di Lipari

Dicembre è tra i miei mesi preferiti per fotografare nelle Isole Eolie, il sole basso crea contrasti ricchi e colori sfavillanti, sotto cieli drammatici invernali.

In questa immagine si vede il porto ed il Castello di Lipari, con Vulcano dietro, e in lontananza la costa della Sicilia.

Questa è una delle mie panoramiche di altissima risoluzione, creata da molti scatti cuciti assieme digitalmente per creare una vista larga di dettagli mozzafiato.

Winter in the Aeolian islands can often be still colourful, sunny and warm. And often offers the best light and sea and sky conditions for photography.

This house on Panarea, the owner of which is one of my oldest and closest friends - will always have a special place in my heart - alas mostly sad. Those who know it will know why.
