On flights into Italy from the north, you can often get majestic views over the highest peaks. These are (I believe!) the Lepontine Alps, in the north of Italy, just south of Switzerland. I captured this view in early December, with the snow completely covering these high peaks.

On my regular flights to Italy from the UK, I always get excited at the views as we fly over the Alps. Until then, the views are only of the rather flat and featureless landscape of France. But then as the Alps are approached, and the ground starts rise up dramatically, the breathtaking spectacle of the high mountains kicks in like a dopamine hit. Not least because I know Italy is just on the other side. My favourite country.
