This is a twilight view of the Skyscrapers of The City of London, seen at twilight with the glowing evanescent light of the sun illuminating the sky with it’s fiery tones, creating a wonderful backdrop to the gleaming skyscrapers.
I captured this view of the ever-changing skyline in late 2018, and this view is a wonderful snapshot of The City as it was then, London’s historic financial district. The Gherkin building (30 St Mary Axe) is centre stage here, with 22 Bishopsgate and the Heron Tower to the right, and 100 Bishopsgate and the Pinnacle to the left. Just visible also is the “Can of Ham” building (70 St Mary Axe). The fact that some of these buildings are still under construction makes this skyline view vibrant and dramatic, with the cranes and their red safety lights showing just how energetic this great city is in its incessant and inexorable growth. Seen in this rare but wonderful lighting condition, for me this view captures the very essence of London.
A wide panoramic version of this view which includes much of London can be seen here
