City of London Skyline Panorama over the Rooftops of Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury. This is a multi-shot, digitally blended ultra high resolution panoramic image of the London skyline as seen on a chilly winter’s evening from Marylebone, and captured with a powerful telephoto lens.
I captured this view in late December 2017 and it freezes in time a moment when the skyline of the City of London was at it’s best; now I feel there are too many buildings clustered together and it’s harder to separate them.
The afternoon was bright and the chilly sky very clear and free from haze or dust, giving this a fresh and sharp look to this image.
I shot this view from a viewpoint high up on a tower block to give the vantage point over the rooftops. I used my 500mm lens to bring everything closer and to compress the perspective. If you look closely you can see the stunning contemporary curving green roof of the British Museum at left, and at right the illuminated Baroque dome of St Paul’s cathedral, now jostling for space amidst its tall, modern steel and glass neighbours.
This panoramic image is slightly taller than my standard 1:3 panoramic format – it is in fact 2:5. But despite the increased printing lab cost (20% more!), I will keep the price of this slightly larger format the same for each width size as the other 1:3 format panoramas.
