This was taken early one morning in September 2016. When I awoke I immediately saw that it was clear and there was a lovely light in the sky so I rushed out to one of my favourite locations in London – the top of Primrose Hill. The light was indeed remarkable and I got some great shots of the first rays of sun hitting the sides of the tall buildings in Canary Wharf and The City.

I also did this panorama – consisting of 10 shots all blended together – of a wider view over London including the tall skyscrapers of The City ad Canary Wharf in the distance, but closer in are the three Camden tower blocks, the Spire of St Mark’s, the domed roof of the Francis Crick Institute and the Gothic spires of St Pancras Station.

That warm, almost misty atmosphere of yellowy light in the sky reminds me of Canaletto the great 18th century Venetian topographical painter, who is one of my favourite artists….I always seek out this golden light which is so rare to see!
