I captured this image of the iconic O2 Arena – formerly known as the Millennium Dome – as part of an ongoing commission for the O2 Arena itself. This view is from an industrial area on the north side of the River Thames, and it offers a wonderful viewpoint over the wide curve of the river to the North Greenwich peninsula, where this magnificent dome is located, with the tall towers of the Canary Wharf skyscrapers harmoniously lined up to its left.
There has been a lot of recent building going on in the area surrounding the O2 Arena, which has established itself as a major venue for concerts and events including indoor tennis tournaments such as the season ending Nitto ATP Final. There are now hotels, a huge range of apartment buildings, many offices and shops, and even a full sized golf driving range. It’s now an exciting, and very vibrant area, buzzing with life and a massive change of what this are was like when the Arena was built on what was wasteland for the Millennium in 2000 by leading architect Richard Rogers.
