I went back to a balcony of a tall building overlooking the central London neighbourhood of Marylebone on several occasions before I got the precise light that I wanted – soft but clear, vibrant and rich, and captured this view at just the precise moment when the light from the sky cast a cool, ethereal glow over the Marylebone rooftops, and balanced perfectly in strength and tone with the with warm illuminations from street and building lights below.
This is a stitched view made from 6 with images taken with a medium format digital Hasselblad camera, 80mm lens, 5 seconds at f11. The glow of the warm tones and atmosphere in the sky that day were just magical, and I knew just as I was clicking the shutter on each constituent image that make this panorama that I was capturing a unique view of one of the most beautiful and historical areas of London.
