River Thames Evening Panorama with Blackfriars Bridge St Pauls and The City

This breathtaking panoramic view was captured from Waterloo Bridge looking across the shimmering waters of the River Thames at slack tide towards the skyscrapers of The City. Once the magnificent illuminated Baroque dome of St Paul’s cathedral dominated the London skyline, now it is just a feature, albeit still of immense grace and beauty. It does however, create a counterpoint to the composition, without it the curtain of gleaming modern tall steel and glass buildings would be bereft of its unique star.

I believe the view from Waterloo Bridge is one of London’s finest, but has its drawbacks. One of which is the large number of illuminated river boats that power up and down the Thames. Another is the road vibrations if you are on the span of an arch and not over the base of the bridge; and of course the position I chose for the precise alignment of the buildings is right in the middle of an arch. But I am happy it still came out well!
