This magnificent sunset I captured from a tall building in Canary Wharf, looking over the River Thames, Shard and The City. Amidst the plethora of buildings can also be seen the Tower Bridge at left, spanning the Thames. I have been several times to this same location, but on this occasion the glowing tones of the sky were more beautiful than ever. I waited for the exact moment to capture this view, so that the twinkling lights in the streets and buildings matched the intensity of the sky. The air that early spring day was perfectly still, the sky clear with very little pollution or haze in the air, rendering the colours especially luminous.
This is a high resolution image, so there is lots of minute detail in the view. In the full resolution detail shots below can be seen Tower Bridge with the globular shaped glass City Hall behind, the City cluster with the Walkie Talkie building and the BT tower, and finally Wapping shoreline with Shadwell Basin and its iron Bascule Bridge over the rooftops of Rotherhithe.
