Charing Cross and Golden Jubilee Bridge Panorama

A panoramic photograph of Charing Cross and Golden Jubilee Bridge. This panorama, captured at night, includes the arched, post modern 1980s Charing Cross station, design by Terry Farrell architects. The Golden Jubilee Bridge is a pedestrian crossing across the River Thames suspended on each side from the Hungerford Railway Bridge. On the left is the Victoria Embankment and The Royal Horseguards Hotel, formerly the headquarters of the secret service during the war. Behind the elegant spider’s web like struts holding the pedestrian bridge, are the Art Deco buildings of the Adelphi, Shell Mex House (now known as Eighty Strand) with its imposing clock face, commonly known as “Big Benzene” and the Savoy Hotel. At right is the London Eye pier, serving the river boat service.

This panoramic view I captured in mid-October 2024. The clear air of a fresh autumn evening create fabulous and clear conditions for cityscape photography. This view of Charing Cross and Golden Jubilee Bridge may not be the most iconic view of London, but I love how it includes the parts of London that Londoners enjoy, the quiet backstreets of Covent Garden, the wonderful 1930s Art Deco architectural masterpieces of the buildings lining the river.
