This series of photographic works by Adam Butler of London Pubs have all been taken using multiple exposures on an ultra high resolution medium format camera. They are all available in any custom or bespoke size in a single panel up to 240 x 320cm.

There has been a pub called the White Lion on the site near Covent Garden underground station since at least 1839, and the current pub was rebuilt in 1888, as can be seen under the rampant lion at the top of the building. The White Lion pub was once used just by market traders and local people, but is now used mainly by tourists, office workers and opera goers. Like many of the pubs in the Covent garden area, the beating heart of London’s theatre land, the White Lion Pub is a very popular stopping off point for a pre or post-theatre meal and drink.

The White Lion Group, a radical political group in the 1820s and 1830s convened its inaugural meeting and subsequently regularly met at the establishment. Their members included the physician Dr. James Watson and the orator John Gale Jones, Their group was named after the pub, as they wanted it to reflect the White Lion Pub’s early role in hosting reformist gatherings amid the post-Napoleonic unrest.
