I captured this ethereal image of the Crescent Moon and Dattilo just before sunrise in early June 2021 whilst shooting an all night timelapse.

In this image, I endeavoured to evoke the absolute silence and beauty of the moment, to convey the magical colours in the sky and the harmony and confuence between heavenly bodies, atmospheric conditions and natural structures. The fact that a thin slice of moon is rarely seen, since it only rises just before sunrise, and that only on very few occasions each year does it line up so beautifully with Dattilo, makes this image that bit more magical. At times like this you completely forget that you’ve been up all night…This image was captured at 4:36am
