Some dawns are just more magical than others. A combination of haze, humidity, temperature, clouds and other atmospheric elements can combine to produce some surprising and often truly dreamlike tones in the sky.

Panarea is lucky to have wonderful views of the the looming but perfectly symmetrical conical Stromboli on the horizon about 20km away. Being an active volcano it is regularly seen billowing out smoke, which with a breeze is gently drawn across the sky, as seen here. The thin, wispy clouds above capture the purple rays of the sun before it breaches the horizon. At right is the rocky island of Basiluzzo, with its cathedral like satellite Spinazzola.
