The uninhabited little island of Lisca Bianca, with its neighbour Bottaro (which I climbed to take this photo) – together known as “Le Lische” – is a favourite place for holiday makers and their boats to gather in the summer. A party atmosphere is regularly created by music played from some of the larger boats, and often many of these are moored together, allowing revellers to hop from boat to boat to share beers or food, to dance, or frolic in the sun. Summer at Lisca Bianca is one of the best known highlights of Panarea.
It is also one of most beautiful places to be in the entire Aeolian Islands. In the 1960s, film director Michelangelo Antonioni based his groundbreaking feature film “L’Avventura” on this tiny islet Lisca Bianca. The story was of a group of young Roman tourists on holiday, and one of them went missing, establishing the career of not only the director but also of Monica Vitti, who became one of Italy’s best known and most glamorous actresses of the era.
