Waiting for the Summer – the sun terrace of Hotel Raya on Panarea.
This is a place where you can explore endless architectural details, with a breathtaking setting next to the sea. It is certainly one of most beautiful terraces in the entire Aeolian Islands, if not the entire Mediterranean, as many have claimed. I have been endlessly inspired by it, capturing views of its whitewashed walls, arches and the stunning light, over many years. Here the shrine with a Madonna acts like a fulcrum around which the deckchairs are placed.
There is something about the simple geometry of this composition that I love, and captured here in the early season of June means that it was empty. The lack of people in this view imparts a hint of melancholy in the composition, despite the pretty setting; this is something I learnt from my friend the painter Behi Shamiri, whose evocative works of beautiful places are often devoid of people.
Lose yourself in the Mediterranean and the very essence of the Aeolian Islands with Adam’s sunny and unique collection of the pristinely beautiful Panarea
