This panorama of Venice was captured from the top of the bell tower of San Giorgio Maggiore, looking back at the Doge’s Palace, with the domed cupolas of the basilica of St Mark’s just visible behind, the St Mark’s Campanile and the Sansovino library at left, and the jaw droppingly beautiful array of centuries old buildings along the canal to the right. It is a high resolution image, created by blending together many individual images into a wide, highly detailed panorama.

This was captured in late autumn, when the vaporous summer haze had cleared away, with more steely grey tones in the chilly winter sky, but with the city buildings caressed by the glowing, warm rays of the afternoon sun.
