Scotland’s capital city of Edinburgh has a stunning skyline, and the view from Calton Hill is one of the finest. It features the wonderful Edinburgh Castle, the jewel in the crown of the Edinburgh Old Town which is a Unesco World Heritage site.
The Dugald Stewart monument at right imparts a marvellous Greek temple flavour to this pretty location, but the dramatic form of Edinburgh Castle and the monuments along Princes St dominate this view I call Edinburgh Sunset Panorama. In the middle is the illuminated clock tower of the Balmoral Hotel, formerly known as the North British Hotel.
To the right of this is the Walter Scott Monument, by the Christmas fun fair, an illustration of the appreciation given by Edinburgh to one of its greatest writers. His novel Waverley was taken as the name of the main train station next to it. Just to the left of the castle is the Tollbooth Kirk, whose 19th century gothic spire marks the highest point in central Edinburgh. immediately to the right of the spire is the Bank of Scotland, founded in 1695.
Immerse yourself in the rich details and tones of Adam Butler’s unique collection of ultra high resolution panoramic views of world cities.
