The craggy bay of Cala Zimmari Evening on Panarea is justifiably a favourite spot in the summer. In the mid-winter the bay assumes an entirely different aspect. When the light drops, the sky can become richly coloured with cool, clear air, and with the sun setting in very different location than in the summer months the sky can appear illuminated with pink clouds.

Winter for me is when the coastlines are at their most evocative. They are often empty, tranquil, with a melancholic atmosphere; revealing the beauty of their dark side whilst yearning the distant joys of the summer. Shooting with long exposures at twilight helps coax out the hidden tones, the quiet sounds, their secret character, their beguiling magic.
