Evening falls with the warm glow of twilight’s magical colours. This is London as seen from the Royal Observatory at Greenwich, on one of those hypnotic early summer evenings when the colours come to life.

This is one of the most wonderful locations to view London from, it is definitely one of my favourite viewpoints. To see a city across shimmering water – in this case the still surface of the River Thames – always brings a cityscape to life, and in this instance the reflections are magical.

Visible in this sweeping panorama are the tall skyscrapers of The City, London’s financial hub. The Gherkin (90 St Mary Axe), Heron Tower, 100 Bishopsgate, the Can of Ham (70 St Mary Axe), 22 Bishopsgate, several in construction. To the left can be seen St Paul’s cathedral next to Tower Bridge, and further to the left is the Shard. In the foreground is the tall 1969s residential tower block of Aragon House, London’s tallest residential building. Of course I cannot forget to mention the illuminated intricate rigging and masts of the Cutty Sark, visible at lower right, one of the world’s most famous clipper ships.
